The house is an ideal starting point for walks and excursions to the surrounding mountains and the nearby villages. Palanzo is crossed through by the Strada Regia, an ancient track built by the Romans and used as a connection road between Como and Bellagio.

What to visit
  • The villages of Faggeto Lario: Visit Palanzo and the close-by villages of Lemna (also on foot), Molina and Riva in order to discover their cobble stone alleys, small squares and typical restaurants.
  • Bellagio: You can reach Bellagio, “the Pearl of the Lake” and situated at the point where the lake divides in two branches, by car or public transport.
  • The gorge (Orrido) of Nesso
On foot
  • Chiesa del Soldo - In only a few minutes on foot along a Way of the Cross you can reach the church del Soldo with a wonderful view from its church yard.
  • Rifugio Riella M.Palanzone – You leave the house wearing your walking boots and follow the forest track that in 1h30 will lead you to rifugio Riella. If you wish from there in 30 min. you can reach the top of Monte Palanzone with its magnificent view.
  • Strada Regia – An easy and relaxing walk that coasts the lake and leads from Palanzo to Pognana and Nesso (the visit of the gorge is a must) or further.
  • Alpe di Lemna -You walk down to the village Lemna from where you pick up the track that leads to the agriturismo of Lemna (local cuisine and local products available). From here you can ascend to the Colma di Palanzo and to Rifugio Riella from where you make your way back to Palanzo.
  • Monte Piatto - From the village of Torno you follow the track leading up to Monte Piatto and, near the church of S. Elisabetta, you can admire the Sasso Pendula, an enormous erratic block brought here during the Ice Age, and balanced on a rocky pedestal. From here a circular walk takes you to the Massi Avelli, ancient tombs hewn in the rock dating back to the 5th - 6th century. Return to Torno.
By mountain bike
  • to the near by villages
  • for trained bikers a circular route starting from Palanzo: Cycle to Como where you take the funicular with your bike to Brunate. From here you cycle to S. Maurizio and Piazzale Cao, where the track starts which leads to rifugio Riella. From there you follow the track back to Palanzo.
By boat

In the village Riva it’s posssible to rent a boat (without license) in order to visit the beautiful shores of the lake with its splendid villas.

Speleology

For the fans of the “underground world” all the zone is rich of cavity, abysses, wells and labyrinthine galleries also of remarkable development and depth from the Gugliemo Cove, hardly over.
